Lake Tahoe’s East Shore is about to get a serious facelift, and adventure seekers should take note. The long-anticipated Chimney Beach parking area is entering its final construction phase, promising a smoother, safer experience for weekend warriors and local beach enthusiasts.

The collaboration between the USDA Forest Service, Nevada Department of Transportation, and Tahoe Transportation District isn’t just about adding parking, it’s a strategic move to enhance public access while protecting the delicate Lake Tahoe ecosystem. With 130 off-highway paid parking spots on the horizon, gone are the days of sketchy roadside parking and environmental strain.

More Than Just Parking

This isn’t your average parking lot upgrade. The new facility will feature ADA-compliant connections, restrooms, picnic areas, and a signalized crosswalk connecting beach trails to the future East Shore Trail. It’s a thoughtful design that prioritizes both visitor experience and environmental sustainability.

Safety First

Before you grab your beach towel and sunscreen, know that the area remains closed. Critical safety components like pedestrian crosswalks and No Parking signage are still being installed. Project partners are adamant about delivering a facility that’s not just convenient, but genuinely safe for everyone.

What’s Next?

For now, patience is key. The project teams are committed to creating a facility that balances recreational needs with environmental protection. Adventure seekers can stay updated by checking www.tahoetransportation.org/projects/sr28-corridor.

Stay tuned, Tahoe lovers, your beach day is coming soon, and it’s going to be epic.
