Snow Drought Delays Tahoe's Winter Playground: Heavenly and Northstar Resorts Pivot

Winter’s fashionably late arrival is throwing a wrench into Tahoe’s ski season kickoff, with Heavenly and Northstar resorts pushing back their traditional slope openings. Instead of carving fresh powder, mountain enthusiasts will need to settle for alternative mountain experiences this weekend.
Mountain Pivot Strategy
Heavenly isn’t letting a snow shortage stop the fun. The resort will run its gondola for panoramic sightseeing and unleash the Ridge Rider Mountain Coaster, offering thrill-seekers an adrenaline fix with killer mountain views. Meanwhile, Northstar is transforming its Village into a winter wonderland, firing up the ice rink and hosting live music from 4-7 p.m. to keep the energy high.
Snow Making Magic
Resort teams aren’t sitting idle. They’re leveraging every cold moment to manufacture snow, working overtime to prepare slopes for eager skiers and riders. Low temperatures and promising forecast hints suggest winter might finally decide to show up soon. Kirkwood is still holding onto hope for a December 5th opening, conditions permitting.
