The cross country track was ablaze with local talent at the NIAA 3A State Championships, where South Tahoe High School athletes proved they’re more than just weekend warriors. In a display of pure grit and mountain-bred endurance, four runners from STHS dominated the competition at Rancho San Rafael Park in Reno.

Mountain Athletes Rise to the Challenge

Standout performer Lyla Landy seized second place with an impressive 19:57 time, proving that small-town athletes can absolutely hang with the big league competitors. Her sister Madelyn Landy wasn’t far behind, snagging a solid fifth-place finish with a 20:53 time that would make any local proud.

Boys’ Team Shows Serious Potential

The boys’ squad wasn’t about to be outdone. Shamus Nealis blazed through the course, securing a fourth-place finish with a 16:41 time, while Max Vadnais powered his way to a respectable 13th place with a 17:59 performance. Neighboring Tahoe Truckee High School also crushed it, with Kiefer Willcox taking first place overall with a lightning-fast 15:48.

While the medals and rankings tell one story, the real narrative here is about small mountain town athletes pushing their limits and representing their community with serious heart. These runners aren’t just competing, they’re showcasing the raw, unfiltered athletic spirit that defines Tahoe’s outdoor culture.
