Upgrade Alert: Van Sickle Bi-State Park Gets a Makeover

Van Sickle Bi-State Park

Calling all Tahoe adventure seekers and park lovers! The California Tahoe Conservancy is dropping some seriously exciting plans for Van Sickle Bi-State Park, and they want your input. This isn’t just another boring park renovation, we’re talking major upgrades that will make outdoor access more inclusive and epic.

More Than Just Trails

Imagine a park that’s not just beautiful, but actually accessible to everyone. The proposed improvements include a fresh 0.4-mile shared-use trail that meets ADA requirements, which means more people can enjoy those killer Tahoe views. They’re also planning a new entrance plaza, day-use picnic areas with meadow and historic barn views, and some slick interpretive signs to give you the local scoop.

Sustainability Meets Adventure

The Conservancy isn’t just thinking about looks, they’re thinking about the environment. Best Management Practices for snow storage and stormwater runoff mean they’re protecting Tahoe’s legendary water quality while making the park more functional. The planned Dennis T. Machida Memorial Greenway connector will link Chonokis Road to the new trail, creating even more connectivity for hikers and outdoor enthusiasts.

How to Get Involved

Want to have your voice heard? You’ve got options. Join the virtual meeting on November 17 at noon, hit up the in-person session at Lake Tahoe Community College on November 20, or fill out the online survey available in English and Spanish.
